  3. It is almost a year now that our dear Alexis is gone. Time flew by and at the same time almost froze, it’s a strange feeling.

We met thanks to work, and from the very beginning we got along (since the job interview actually!).

Alexis was a smart man, a fun guy, a passionate human being with a broad culture and an appetite for knowledge.
Oh boy, I do miss our long and fervent discussions!

His legacy remains with us, and this biography and music archive is a beautiful tool to stay connected to him!

  4. Today, it’s a year ago that Alexis died and i am still walking in the streets of Berlin having very often the feeling that i see him. There is a huge luggage of memories of him , of his humor, his intelligence, his pranks, his enthusiasm , laughs, fun and vacations that we shared. But i regret that i missed many of these, that turned to be his last years. i always had for granted that with Alexis we will meet again.
It is so heavy to lose a friend in such an unfair way. In any way…
He will always be remembered. miss you Baytelman!

  5. I don’t even know where to start. I’ve been thinking about you week in, week out, every time I listen to a song that no-one else would appreciate but you. I was thinking of various things to go off on, as an invite of others to what our energetic alignment was but I decided to keep all that private because each one of us had something special with you. I used to always say that I don’t like djs cause they’re all conceited but the ones that are artists, I respect. For that reason, I would always tell you that you are the only person I’d learn to dj from, hence I’ll keep it to your biggest love. Beyond the sadness and the yearning, I’ll just always remember the morning I showed you Nomalizo and how we had it on repeat for an hour. That afternoon you bought that Gloria Estefan vinyl and we were just stuck on the B-sides for hours talking about white people and their inability to understand and embody fuego. The look of pride and honor in your face when I told you that whenever I want a background for sex I’d put on your set for Pag. The energy and willingness to dive out of boredom that Friday night cause I was putting on Gloria Gaynor which ended up in the sickest gay disco party at yours. That first time we actually interacted when you were behind the booth in Sousami, right before you moved to Amsterdam and instantly became friends cause you were the only dj in that place that actually put on some hardcore shit that reminds people why we love partying in the first place. Honestly, I can go on on and elaborate with poetics about the loss and gap you have left in my (and our) life (ves), and ask how can scenes keep on pulsating as if nothing happened, and how can music or a dancefloor feel the same again, but I’ll skip the sentimentalities cause we all feel them too much and I’ll just keep it cute and simple and use the same words as Letta Mbulu “Give me that old time feeling”. I miss you.

  6. It was always going to be a good time if Alexi was around. I looked up to him from when we first met, when I was probably around 13-14. He was the only person I knew who was pretty much doing anything with electronic music, not least making a name for himself in the subculture of a big city: Berlin. When I was studying in London in the mid-2000s, and although we still weren’t that close, I went to visit him with a friend and he looked after us better than we could ever have imagined, showing two naive 18 year-olds what a Berlin rave was and always ensuring we were OK and having fun. After that, we were friends. Alexi would again show selfless patience and openness to me when he got me my first gig at Sousami in Limassol, sometime around 2014 – even though I wasn’t very good, I remember him saying that he liked the tracks I was playing and that was enough. I made frequent visits to Berlin each year after that, always travelling there with the excitement of knowing that I would be meeting Alexi, a master of having fun who always made them trips to remember. I wish I could have had the chance to repay all this generosity and hospitality with him visiting me one day in Vietnam. The last time we spoke, we said that that would need to happen soon.

It feels surreal and unfair that we can’t have that chance – or more laughs on walks through Berlin, or a late afternoon margherita and shrimp taco on a hot late afternoon in Meneou. I’ll keep your sense of humour, intelligence and above all realness with me as inspiration and ammunition to move through life with as much lightness and fun as possible, as you did.

Rest in power brother, will miss you always,
    Daniel
